Jewelry Designer Anna Sofia Poirier

Anna Sofia Poirier

Anna Sofia Poirier has been crafting and creating with her hands ever since she could hold a pen. She started making her ultra-colorful line of glazed paper jewelry in 2004. Becoming a jewelry designer was an organic process - armed with paper and scissors, she took to cutting, and the next thing she knew she had a necklace in her hands. Okay, there were a few more steps involved, but everything flowed in a super natural way. Her designs are worn by fabulous women of all ages who like a splash of color with their day.

Her favorite jewelry-making tools are her collection of scissors - each pair suited for particular tasks - curve cutting, precision snipping, long slice cutting - and an x-acto knife. She uses these tools along with with decorative papers from Japan, India, and Nepal to handcraft her one-of-a-kind lightweight earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. Most prominently featured in her work are gorgeous papers from Japan - silkscreened Chiyogami paper, and stencil-dyed Katazome-shi paper.

Anna’s paper collection is her color palette, and she draws inspiration from the colors and designs of the paper. The Anna Sofia Designs line is about pattern, color, music, movement, language, fashion, flora, and fauna. You’ll see such references in the jewelry names, the shapes of the beads, and the overall design aesthetic of her jewelry. She loves the romance languages and has a lot of fun naming her jewelry with gorgeous words in Italian, French, and Spanish.

She lives in the beautiful Berkshires in Western Massachusetts with her husband and their Maine Coon cat. From the lush Spring greenery to the intense New England Fall foliage, she’s surrounded by color, and lets the natural beauty around her seep into her creations.
