Jewelry Designer
Anna Sofia Poirier

Anna Sofia Poirier

When I was little, I used to draw women in intricate dresses, wearing beaded necklaces, fancy, dangly earrings, and bracelets, using fine-point colored pens. The drawings I made in woodsy North Carolina were my first expression of jewelry, and I've been interested in color, style, and fashion, ever since.

I spent most of my life in the Boston area, always making something detailed with my hands, doing creative work (professional organizing, wardrobe consultation, illustration, teaching) that gave me lots of freedom. I moved to the Berkshires, MA in late 2006 where I live with my husband. I’m right at home in the country.

I started making paper jewelry in the fall of 2004, and selling my work shortly after that. When I’d sell in person, the top things I’d hear were “They’re so light!” (of the earrings), “I can’t believe this is paper!”, and “Do you have a website?” The coaxing and encouragement of my customers helped give me the nudge to take my business online, which I did in 2006. And l love it!

Here’s what I love - working with beautiful paper from Japan, Italy, Nepal, Brazil. Designing earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, developing techniques to make them, and bringing them to life! I love the anticipation and fun of making new things. Having women wear my work is the very sweet icing on the cake. And the husbands! Every time I get an order from a customer who’s getting a gift for his wife on their first wedding anniversary (the traditional gift is paper) I get so excited.

When I’m not making paper jewelry, I’m taking photos of birds and nature, happily organizing my paper, cooking up something good, and feeling thankful. To see my photos of birds and inspirations, and posts of new jewelry, you can visit my blog.
